Maharashtra Corona Vaccine Mix: In Maharashtra, a case of the Covishield vaccine replacing Covaxin has come to light. Since January 3, the government has been running a campaign for corona vaccines for adolescent girls and boys in the age group of 15 to 18 years across the country.

As part of this campaign, children in this age group are to get a dose of Covaxin, but a shocking case has come to light from a Mumbai hospital where a child was accidentally given a dose of Covishield instead of Covaxin.

A 15-year-old boy from Santa Cruz has reportedly been given a dose of Covishield vaccine instead of a Covaxin at Surya Hospital in Mumbai.

The child's mother said she went to the hospital with her child on the same day as the Corona vaccination started, but it was later discovered that the vaccine was Covishield instead of Covaxin. She said shehad registered her son's details on the the Cowin portal on January 1.

Hospital reveals reason for a glitch in CoWIN portal

Talking to officials from Surya Hospital about the matter, it was learnt that the mother had signed a Covishield form for immunization of the child.

On the other hand, it was found that when the child's mother had booked a dose of vaccine for vaccination, she had given an appointment to Surya Hospital in the CoWIN portal where a dose of Covaxin was to be imposed, while no dose of Covaxin was available. In this case, hospital officials have said that this has been due to the glitch on the CoWIN portal, although we will help the child fully for the next dose.

This was stated by the BMC official

According to The Times Of India, BMC Health Officer Dr Mangala Kumar said he has issued a letter to the hospital and sought an explanation from him in the matter. He said the hospital has admitted its mistake but has also cited the glitch in the portal as the reason for the mistake. The official said she will talk to the Central government for the next dose of child vaccination.
