After Bengal And Uttarakhand Rape-Murder Cases, MP Govt Issues Orders To Ensure Safety Of Medics

Madhya Pradesh government has implemented nine security measures to protect medical workers following the murder of a trainee medical student at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College.

The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a slew of security measures for medical and healthcare workers across the state in a bid to address growing concerns over the safety of medical professionals. 

The move comes in the wake of the murder of a trainee medical student who was raped in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital earlier this month. 

To mitigate the risk of violence against healthcare workers, the Mohan Yadav government has ordered the implementation of nine key security measures. These measures come after the Madhya Pradesh High Court and Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of the matter and expressed concern over the safety of medical professionals. 

Prominent displays of legal protection for doctors, the formation of committees to prevent violence, and strict controls on entry into healthcare facilities are some of the security measures that the MP government has ordered to implement. 

Additionally, the government has mandated the installation of CCTV cameras and improved lighting in hospital premises, increased night patrols by local police, and the establishment of 24x7 security control rooms.

To facilitate swift communication, the phone numbers of key officials will be prominently displayed at hospitals. Internal committees tasked with preventing sexual harassment will also be strengthened to ensure a safer work environment. 

Nationwide protests erupted by doctors, medical students, and other health professionals after a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and murdered at Kolkata's state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. 

On Wednesday, Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra will hold a meeting with all the Chief Secretaries along with the Director General of Police of various states. Preparedness to implement measures to enhance security and provide a safe working environment for healthcare workers in all hospitals across the country will be discussed in the meeting, reported ANI.
