The name of Nasrullaganj in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district has been changed to Bhairunda.
This comes after the state government sent the proposal for the same last year. Nasrullaganj, now Bhairunda is located in the Budhni Assembly constituency of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
“A proposal to change the name of Nasrullaganj as Bherunda has been sent to the Centre,” Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan told a gathering in Bhopal last year, as quoted by news agency PTI.
In February 2022, the MP government changed the name of the Hoshangabad district to Narmadapuram and the name of its Babai town was changed to Makhan Nagar. Babai is the birthplace of renowned poet Makhanlal Chaturvedi.
In November 2021, Bhopal’s Habibganj railway station was renamed after the tribal queen Rani Kamalapati.
State BJP secretary Rajnish Agrawal had claimed that changing the name of Nasrullaganj was an old demand of local citizens.
Assembly polls are due in Madhya Pradesh this year-end.
The opposition Congress, which formed the government in the state in December 2018 had lost power in March 2020 after Jyotiraditya Scindia jumped ship to the BJP taking his supporters along with him.
MP CM Shivraj Chouhan and state Congress president Kamal Nath were engaged in a bitter 'question war' recently seeking to know from each other about the "unfulfilled" poll promises.
Notably, PM Modi addressed a gathering at Rani Kamalapati railway station in Bhopal yesterday and said that some people are hellbent on sullying his image. He charged these people have been given a "supari" (contract) to dent his image.
“There are some people in our country who have been determined since 2014, spoken publicly and declared their resolve that they will tarnish Modi's image. For this, they have given 'supari' (contract) to various people," the Prime Minister remarked, as quoted by PTI.
He further remarked, "Some people are sitting inside the country to support these people and some are doing their work sitting outside the country. These people have been continuously trying to spoil and dent Modi's image”.
PM Modi said such people have taken a pledge that "Modi Teri Kabar Khudegi”.
