Lakhimpur Kheri Compensation: Governments of Punjab and Chhattisgarh on Wednesday have decided to give Rs. 50 Lakh each to the families of farmers killed during the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. The announcement was made by Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi on Wednesday.
UP government had allowed opposition leaders to go to Lakhimpur Kheri. Five Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been allowed to visit Lakhimpur Kheri. This includes Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi and Sachin Pilot. Rahul has reached Lucknow, from where he has headed to Sitapur and then would be joining Priyanka in Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the victims' families. Heavy security arrangements have been made for Rahul and Priyanka's tour to Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri.
People allowed to travel in groups no larger than 5 individuals: Prashant Kumar
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said on Wednesday, "In order to maintain peace, the Lakhimpur Kheri district administration had banned the movement of people. However, permissions to travel in groups of 5 are now been given.So, anyone who wants to go can go there." He said that the State government's aim is to maintain peace and order in all circumstances and its intention was not to disrupt anyone's movement.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi got involved in an argument with the officials at Lucknow Airport, after which he protested at the airport itself, although the matter was resolved shortly and he left for Sitapur. Rahul will first go to Sitapur and with Priyanka Gandhi will first go to Bahraich and then to Lakhimpur Kheri.
