Karnataka Villagers Organise Grand Feast To Celebrate Return Of Missing Dog Who Travelled 250 Km Home
The dog named Maharaj was adorned with garlands after he made a miraculous return to his home covering nearly 250 kilometers on his own.
A strange celebration ensued at Yamagarni village in Nipani taluk of Belagavi district with the villagers parading a black indie dog and holding a feast in its honor.
The dog named Maharaj was adorned with garlands after he made a miraculous return to his home, covering nearly 250 kilometers on his own.
Maharaj, an elderly dog, had followed his owner Kamalesh Kumbhar on his annual 'Wari padayatra' pilgrimage to Pandharpur in South Maharashtra. Kumbhar, a 'Warkari', visits Pandharpur every year on Ashadha Ekadashi and Kartiki Ekadashi. This year, Maharaj decided to accompany him on the journey.
“Maharaj has always liked listening to bhajans. Once, he had accompanied me on another padayatra trip to Jyotiba temple near Mahabaleshwar,” Kumbhar shared with PTI.
Throughout the 250 km journey, Maharaj faithfully followed Kumbhar and his group of friends who walked while chanting bhajans. However, after visiting the Vithoba temple, Kumbhar realised that Maharaj was missing. Despite searching extensively, he couldn't find the dog and believed that Maharaj had left with another group of pilgrims.
Disheartened, Kumbhar returned home on July 14. However, to his astonishment, the very next day, Maharaj appeared in front of his house, wagging his tail as if nothing had happened. The dog looked well-fed and in good health, as per the report.
Overcome with joy, Kumbhar and the villagers celebrated Maharaj's return with a grand feast. "It is such a miracle that the dog could find its way home, even though it was 250 km away. We believe it was Lord Panduranga who guided him," Kumbhar said, as per the report.
Meanwhile, Karnataka man earlier celebrated a lavish birthday of a pet dog in Belagavi district. The event was attended by over 4,000 people and witnessed a 100 kg cake.
