A woman has lodged a complaint against her husband for allegedly circulating private videos of their 18-year-old daughter on social media, police reported on Saturday. This shocking incident drove the daughter to attempt suicide by ingesting phenyle, a toxic substance. She is currently in critical condition at a government hospital in Udupi city.

According to the complaint, the father was upset about his daughter's relationship with a relative from Thirthahalli. In a fit of rage, he summoned her boyfriend to their home, assaulted him and forcibly retrieved private videos and photos from his phone. He then allegedly disseminated these intimate materials on social media, according to a report on PTI.

After this incident, the father reportedly assaulted both his daughter and wife, resulting in injuries. The daughter, overwhelmed by the humiliation over the viral videos, attempted to take her own life on Friday.

The mother then filed a complaint with the Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station in Udupi. The investigation is on, police said.
