SI Suicide Case: Karnataka HM Rules Out CBI Probe, Announces 50 L Ex-Gratia & Govt Job For Kin

In SI suicide case, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara ruled out a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe stating that a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inquiry would suffice.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and a government job for the wife of police sub-inspector (SI) Parashuram, who died under suspicious circumstances on August 4. The announcement comes amid growing demands for a thorough investigation into the SI's death.

On Wednesday, Parameshwara, while visiting the bereaved family in Somanal village, Koppal district, expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of the SI, whom he described as an honest officer from the Dalit community who rose through the ranks after much struggle. "We cannot bring him back, but it is my duty to console the family. It is a loss to me as well," the minister stated, according to a report on PTI.

The Home Minister ruled out a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, stating that a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inquiry would suffice. He assured that the government is taking the case seriously and will ensure justice for the family.

SI Parashuram's wife, Shwetha N V, has accused Yadgir Congress MLA Channareddy Tannur and his son Pampanagouda Tannur of being responsible for her husband's death. She alleged that the duo had demanded Rs 30 lakh from Parashuram to allow him to continue in his posting. Parashuram, who was reportedly depressed due to this demand, died by suicide, according to Shwetha, as per a report.

Responding to her request for a job in the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM), Parameshwara stated, "We have offered her a position in our department, but she has asked for a job in GESCOM. I will discuss this with the Chief Minister." He added that the Rs 50 lakh special grant for the family has been approved by the state government.

Parameshwara also dismissed allegations that money influences police transfers, stating that a law mandates transfers only after two years of posting. He explained that Parashuram was transferred within seven months, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and not the state government. "The CID will investigate why the IG transferred him before the completion of two years," he added.

The SI's death has sparked political controversy, with opposition parties BJP and JD(S) accusing the Congress government of neglecting the safety and well-being of officers from the SC/ST communities.
