An 18-year-old engineering student was allegedly assaulted by a group of five individuals, including the owner of a boys' paying guest (PG) accommodation, after he posted a negative review about the facility on Google. The incident, which took place on March 17 under the jurisdiction of the Kadri police station, has sparked outrage and raised concerns over student safety in PG accommodations.

Student Targeted For 'Honest' Review

The victim, identified as Vikas, a native of Kalaburagi, had been staying at the PG for six months before relocating due to poor living conditions. In his review on Google, he cited issues such as insects in the food, unhygienic conditions, and unclean toilets, giving the PG a one-star rating, as per a report on PTI.

The review reportedly infuriated the PG owner, Santosh, who demanded that Vikas remove the comment. When Vikas refused, Santosh, along with four others, allegedly attacked him and forced him to delete the review. The assault occurred around 10:30 PM on March 17.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the victim’s complaint, Kadri police have registered a case against Santosh and his associates, reported India Today. Authorities are currently investigating the incident and gathering evidence to take appropriate legal action.

The incident has raised alarm over the safety of students living in private PG accommodations, highlighting the urgent need for stricter regulations and monitoring of such facilities.
