Pratap, the son-in-law of former Karnataka minister and BJP leader BC Patil, died by suicide on Monday. His body was discovered inside his car with a bottle of poison.
Pratap, who was married to BC Patil's elder daughter, Sowmya, was found inside his car near a forest in the Arakere area of Davangere district. According to sources, Pratap consumed poison inside his car at around 3:30 PM. Following this, he made a call to his family to inform them of his actions.
Based on the information, the police immediately arrived at the scene and took Pratap to Honnali Hospital. Subsequently, he was transferred to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga, where he succumbed to the effects of the poison. Later, the police also recovered a bottle of poison from his car, according to a report on Republic.
Davangere Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant provided further details to India Today, stating that Pratap consumed poison and informed his family members. After finding his location, he said that Pratap was shifted to Channagiri Hospital in a critical condition.
"The doctor at Channagiri Hospital referred him to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga, where he was declared dead," he said.
An investigation is underway to understand the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
Pratap, a contractor in Hirekerur of Haveri district, married his wife 15 years ago. Speaking to the media, BC Patil mentioned that Pratap was under stress due to issues in conceiving a child and the couple was exploring surrogacy options.
