Security arrangements have been beefed up in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi and other parts of the state to avoid any untoward incident during Muharram processions which will be taken out on Wednesday, said the police.


To ensure law and order situation, drones will be used, and CCTV cameras have also been installed at strategic points in the state capital Ranchi, a senior officer said, reported PTI.


On Tuesday, flag marches were conducted by security personnel in different districts.


Adequate security personnel have been deployed in districts such as Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Palamu, Bokaro, Giridih, Lohardaga and Hazaribag, where clashes had earlier broken out during Muharram.


A senior official said that the routes of procession for Muharram have also been identified in such districts, and added that the organisers have been asked to strictly follow the instructions.


A flag march was organised by the administration in East Singhbhum on Tuesday to instil confidence among residents and maintain peace, a police officer said, as per the PTI report.


Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal led the flag march which covered Sakchi, Bistupur, Makdampur, Kadma, and Dhatkidih localities in Jamshedpur.


security arrangements were also reviewed by the administration across the district, including Jamshedpur, and intensified police patrolling to curb anti-social activities, the report added.


A mock drill was also conducted in the presence of the SSP at the police lines to demonstrate the force's capability to handle mobs. 


In neighbouring West Bengal, DGP Rajeev Kumar said that adequate security measures have been taken in the state to avoid any untoward incident during Muharram procession.


"Let's all celebrate festivals, keeping in mind that religion belongs to individuals and festivals to all. We should be cautious not to cause problems or inconvenience to others. The police and the administration have taken all preparations," Kumar said at the state secretariat, reported PTI.
