Jharkhand News: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, August 30. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday. Sarma said Soren will join the saffron party in Ranchi. Sarma is saffron party's Jharkhand election co-in-charge.
He posted a picture of Soren meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital. Sarma, who is the BJP's co-incharge for the Jharkhand assembly polls, was also part of the meeting.
The Assam CM announced in a post on X. "Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a distinguished Adivasi leader of our country, Champai Soren Ji met Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji a short while ago. He will officially join the BJP on 30th August in Ranchi," Sarma said in the post.
A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader, Soren had accused its leadership of insulting him and announced that he would soon decide on his next political course. It was widely speculated that he might join the BJP, with JMM leader and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren accusing the party of working to poach its leaders.
Earlier on Monday, Sarma said that Champai Soren's joining the BJP would further strengthen the party. "I want Champai Soren to join the BJP and strengthen us. However, since he is a very prominent leader, it is not appropriate for me to comment on him. If he is in Delhi, we will try to communicate with him," Sarma told media persons, as quoted by IANS.
Responding to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's allegations that the saffron party is trying to divide his party, Sarma said, "Look, I even want Hemant Soren to join the BJP. BJP means devotion towards the nation. There should be no question of dividing the country. We all work together for the country."
