New Delhi: Unidentified assailants shot dead CPI(M) leader Subhash Munda in the Daladili area of Jharkhand’s Ranchi on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported. According to the police, Munda was sitting in his office when he was shot by bike-borne assailants. Police reached the spot and launched an investigation immediately after the incident. Efforts are underway to nab the absconding accused, ANI quoted Naushad Alam, SP, Rural Ranchi, as saying.

The incident comes weeks after a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader was shot dead by unidentified criminals in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district earlier this month, news agency PTI reported.

55-year-old Shankar Prasad, the sampark pramukh of RSS Dhanbad, was shot dead on July 11 at his native village in Duma under East Tundi police station area, some 180km from capital Ranchi, PTI quoted the police as saying.

As per the report, his body was recovered the next morning, around 500 metres away from his house near Duma graveyard, said officer in-charge of East Tundi police station Krishna Kumar. “The body has been sent for post-mortem at Sahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital, Dhanbad,” Kumar told PTI.

Shankar Prasad, who is survived by three sons and two daughters, was the horticulture officer of East Tundi block. Several krishi mitras were working under Prasad. He was also a member of Vanvasi Kalyan Kendra, villagers said.

According to a statement by his family to police, Prasad had left home on a motorcycle around 9.30pm on the day of the incident. The following morning, his bullet-ridden body was found near the village graveyard, PTI reported.

In a similar incident in February this year, a 35-year-old Congress leader was shot dead by motorcycle-borne miscreants in Jharkhand's Ramgarh, PTI reported.

The incident took place around 8 pm near an old petrol pump on the Bhurkunda-Patratu road in Saunda area, around 50 km away from the state capital Ranchi. The deceased was identified as Raj Kishore Bauri alias Bitka Bauri, who was the Patratu block representative of Congress' MLA from Barkagaon, Amba Prasad, according to PTI.
