IMD Forecast: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) weather bulletin on Thursday (April 4) predicted that some regions of the Indian subcontinent are likely to witness intense heatwaves and dry spells, while others will experience wet spells for the next few days. Read on to know all about the weather predictions by the weather department for the day.
Delhi To Witness A Warm Day Today
As per IMD's forecast, the national capital, Delhi, and its nearby regions are likely to experience two notches above maximum temperature today at 36 degrees Celsius. Whereas Delhi's minimum temperature is estimated to be 19 degrees Celsius. Notably, it is a notch above the average for the season.
Apart from heat predictions, IMD's weather forecast predicts cloudy skies and the possibility of drizzle, accompanied by gusty winds.
Hot And Humid Weather Likely To Continue In South
According to IMD, the heatwaves are likely to prevail in southern, and south-eastern states. The effect will be seen in parts of states like Karnataka, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry until April 6.
Warm night conditions are likely to be witnessed by the people of Odisha, Maharashtra, and Karnataka today and tomorrow. The state of Chhattisgarh is likely to experience similar conditions today.
The Sourthern regions of Kerala, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu are likely to see hot and humid weather situations until April 8.
IMD predicted that Karnataka may experience hot and humid conditions until tomorrow, while Goa will have similar conditions until April 7.
Rain Likely In North-Eastern States
Light to moderate rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next six days.
In Arunachal Pradesh, thunderstorms and lightning are expected with heavy rainfall until April 7. According to IMD predictions, there is a possibility of very heavy showers on April 6.
The weather department has further predicted heavy rainfall for Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, and Sikkim on April 5.
Odisha Recorded Season's Warmest Day So Far
Reeling under intense heat, Odisha on Thursday (April 4) reported this season's highest temperature so far. The mercury touched 42 degrees Celsius at two places in the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported yesterday.
The weather department said that at least seven places in the state recorded a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius and above. The two locations that witnessed the maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius were Malkangiri and Boudh.
After Malkangiri and Boudh, the locations named, Angul and Bolangir, were the hottest. They recorded 41.7 degrees Celsius temperature. 41.6 degrees and 41 degrees Celsius temperatures were recorded at Jharsuguda, and Bhawanipatna, respectively.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered maximum temperatures of 37.4 and 38 degrees Celsius.
Intense Heat To Continue Till April 6
Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, is likely to witness the maximum and minimum temperatures at 39 degrees and 27 degrees Celsius respectively today, on Friday.
Bhubaneswar's maximum temperature is expected to be above 40 degrees Celsius at many places in the coastal state. It may be above normal by three to five degrees Celsius in some districts till April 6, news agency PTI reported citing the Regional Meteorological Centre.
Additionally, the IMD has issued a yellow warning and forecast heatwave conditions for some regions of the coastal state.
The weather department said that the heatwave conditions may prevail at one or two places. According to IMD, these places are likely to witness intense heat: Bolangir, Keonjhar, Boudh, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, and Angul districts.
The IMD further warned the state of warm night conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places in Bolangir, Kandhamal, Boudh and Bhadrak.
