Heavy Rainfall Isolates 30 Villages In Junagadh As Roads Submerged, NDRF deployed

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), Visavadhar taluka received 336 mm of rain, while Junagadh taluka and city got 297 mm each. Keshod received 248mm rain.

Heavy rains in Gujarat’s Junagadh district have isolated approximately 30 villages as roads leading to them were submerged. Keshod, Manavadar and Vanthali are the affected talukas in the district. The district’s Vanthali taluka received the most rainfall, 361 mm in the 24-hour period ending Tuesday morning, as reported by officials. The state has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past three days now.

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), Visavadhar taluka received 336 mm of rain, while Junagadh taluka and city got 297 mm each. Keshod received 248mm rain. 

In total, 10 talukas across Saurashtra and south Gujarat received over 200 mm of rainfall, which has led to significant waterlogging in low-lying areas.

As per the data shared by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), Vanthali taluka in Junagadh received 361 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending 6 am. It was followed by Visavadar taluka (336 mm), Junagadh taluka (297 mm), Jungadh city (297 mm) and Keshod taluka, where 248 mm of rainfall was recorded in 24 hours.Other places where heavy downpour was recorded in the last 24 hours include Bardoli taluka of Surat (239 mm), Khambhalia taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka (229 mm), Manavadar of Junagadh (224 mm) Navsari taluka of Navsari district (214 mm) and Kalyanpur taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka (200 mm).

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) announced the deployment of 10 teams across Saurashtra, Kutch, and south Gujarat for rescue and relief operations. A team has been consistently helping the stranded residents of Keshod.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red Alert on Monday for several Gujarat districts, including Junagadh and Surat, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall until Tuesday morning. Heavy rains have been forecast for many parts of Gujarat on Wednesday as well. By Thursday, heavy rains are expected in Surat, Navsari, and Valsad, and the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, due to cyclonic circulations over northern and southern Gujarat, the IMD said.
