Amidst escalating political tensions in Haryana, the Congress party on Thursday sought time to meet the state’s governor to address the fallout from the withdrawal of support by three independent MLAs to the BJP government. In a letter addressed to the governor’s office, Congress sought an audience with the governor on Friday.
The delegation, led by Deputy CLP leader Aftab Ahmed and BB Batra, chief whip CLP, alongside other key Congress leaders, sought time to discuss the prevailing political scenario in the state.
The withdrawal of support by three independent MLAs on Tuesday has intensified the opposition’s claims that Nayab Singh Saini government is now in the ‘minority’ within the state assembly. Despite these assertions, Chief Minister Saini had maintained that his government remained stable.
Adding to the political turmoil, JJP leader Dushyant Chautala penned a letter to Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, highlighting the government’s purported loss of ‘majority’ and urging an immediate floor test.
Also, in an interesting turn of events, JJP MLAs have arrived at the residence of Haryana minister and BJP leader Mahipal Dhanda to meet former CM Manohar Lal Khattar.
It is to be noted that during a campaign event in Bhiwani, as per the PTI report, Hooda had expressed doubts regarding joining hands with JJP. “We are 30 MLAs...regarding JJP, it would have been better had they paraded 10 MLAs before the governor,” he said, adding, “There is no dispute about our MLAs. Some of their (JJP's) MLAs are supporting someone else...let them go to the governor with their 10 MLAs”.
Following the withdrawal of support by the three independent MLAs, Hooda reiterated his stance that the Saini government is now operating as a ‘minority’. He had proposed the imposition of the President’s rule and called for fresh elections in the state.
