'Nothing Will Be Achieved': Nuh Congress MLA Slams Khattar Govt Over 'Illegal' Demolition Drive In Haryana

Earlier in the day, a hotel from where the stones were allegedly pelted at the religious procession in Nuh district, was razed.

New Delhi: Condemning the ongoing demolition drive in Haryana in the wake of clashes earlier this week, Nuh Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed on Sunday said the anti-encroachment action was “illegal”, news agency ANI reported. The crackdown followed Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Home Minister Anil Vij vowing stringent action against the perpetrators of the violence.

“This drive is illegal as nothing will be achieved by this action. Those found guilty should be severely punished, but demolishing houses, shops of the poor is not right,” ANI quoted Aftab Ahmed as saying.

Earlier in the day, a hotel from where the stones were allegedly pelted at the religious procession in Nuh district, was razed.

Talking to ANI, district town planner Vinesh Kumar said, “The building was totally unauthorised and it was served notices by the Government and department. Today, this action is being taken. This is a hotel-cum-restaurant and is completely unauthorised. Hooligans had pelted stones on the yatra from here. So, this action is being taken.”

On Saturday, Nuh district administration demolished over 45 "illegal" shops in the Nalhar road area.

According to Nuh SDM Ashwani Kumar, the owners of some of these constructions were allegedly involved in the clashes that rocked the state.

Talking to media, Nuh SDM said, "This has been done on the direction of CM Manohar Lal Khattar. The encroachment was spread across 2.5 acres...All of it was illegal construction. It has been found that some of these people had involvement in the recent clashes.”

According to reports, earlier on Friday, the district administration razed more than 200 shanties of 'illegal' immigrants who were allegedly involved in the recent clashes.

Meanwhile, speaking to ANI, Nuh Deputy Commissioner Prashant Panwar said the situation is peaceful and the demolition drive will continue in the state. "The situation is normal now. SP and I had a meeting with both communities...We have also appealed to them to assure that no incident will happen in future... Demolition drive against illegal construction is underway and it will continue... Action is not being taken to target anyone. Our motive is to establish peace," ANI quoted Panwar as saying.
