New Delhi: Six people, including INLD's state chief Nafe Singh Rathi, have been booked on charges of aiding the alleged suicide of Jagdish Rathi, the son of former Haryana minister Mange Ram Rathi, said police, reported news agency PTI. On Wednesday evening, Jagdish, 55, reportedly committed suicide. "Jagdish Rathi, son of former Minister Mange Ram Rathi committed suicide on Wednesday evening. In this case six accused have been booked for abetment," Jhajjar's Superintendent of Police Waseem Akram said.
When asked if state chief Nafe Singh Rathi of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is among those booked as accused, Akram stated, Yes, Nafe Singh Rathi has been taken into custody as an accused.
Nafe Singh Rathi could not be reached by phone to discuss the situation.
Jagdish, according to Akram, consumed poison.
"Cause of death will be established after all reports are obtained once the postmortem is done. But the apparent cause of death is poisoning," he said.
According to the police, the victim's family has made allegations that some of the suspects were attempting to harass Jagdish regarding a property-related matter. As a result, Jagdish was under a lot of stress, and he had recently recorded an audio clip.
"On December 26, Jagdish had circulated an audio clip in which he has alleged that these people had been harassing him and if anything happens to him they will be responsible," he said.
"At that time, the police had approached him to submit a complaint but he did not submit any complaint. Yesterday evening he committed suicide and a case was registered," he said.
Meanwhile, Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh Sunday joined the police investigation into the sexual harassment case against him and termed the charge levelled by the woman athletics coach "false and baseless". He was questioned for nearly seven hours at Sector 26 police station here. His counsel Deepak Sabharwal told reporters in the evening that his client received notice of appearance from the police asking him to join the investigation and he duly complied.
"He was asked to join the investigation at 11:30 am today. He joined the investigation in Sector 26 police station and the questioning continued till 7 pm," he said.
The advocate said Singh has told the police that the allegations levelled against him are "false and baseless". He has also given documentary proof and whatever evidence he had, said Sabharwal.
"He replied to whatever questions were asked. We cooperated with the police. Whatever documentary proof we had we gave those to the police," he said, adding the handed over two of his mobile phones to the police for investigation.
