Senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had a close shave on Sunday when his SUV was hit by a 'nilgai' while he was going through Barwala in Haryana's Hisar district, police said, reported news agency PTI.

Hooda was fortunate to escape injury in the accident. When the accident occurred, the 75-year-old leader was on his way to a function. The Toyota's front bumper was damaged in the accident.

After the accident, the former CM tweeted that, "Today my vehicle met with an accident while going to Hisar, but by the grace of God and your good wishes, I and my staff are completely safe. I will attend all the scheduled programs ahead."

The front guard of the Toyota vehicle was harmed in the incident.

"A nilgai suddenly appeared on the road and hit Mr Hooda's vehicle. However, he escaped unhurt and no one else in the vehicle received any injury," Hisar's Superintendent of Police Ganga Ram Punia told PTI over the phone, as quoted by PTI.

When contacted, Hooda said, "The animal hit our vehicle, but everyone is safe." "I am continuing with my programmes and am headed to a village for a function," he said.

Images from the scene of the accident show that the SUV's two front airbags were deployed as a result of the impact of the collision. After that, Bhupinder changed into a different vehicle from his cavalcade and continued with the scheduled programs.
