A six-floor building collapsed in the Sachin area of Gujarat's Surat on Saturday. The police informed that one woman was rescued while five people were still trapped in the rubble. A body was recovered from the site, as per news agency ANI.
Rescue operations are underway as police and fire department teams are at the spot. Both NDRF and SDRF teams are also deployed at the spot.
Surat Building Collapse: Woman Rescued, 3-4 People Trapped
Surat Commissioner of Police Anupam Singh Gahlaut stated that five people are still feared trapped inside.
"NDRF, SDRF and other organisations are involved in the rescue operation. We have retrieved a dead body from inside the rubble. Five people, however, are still feared trapped inside," says Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut.
Earlier, Surat Collector Sourabh Pardhi informed that about three to four people are still trapped in the rubble. He told news agency PTI, “We received information that a six-storey building has collapsed. As per primary information, almost 4-5 flats were occupied. One lady has been rescued but about 3-4 people are (still) trapped inside the rubble. Both NDRF and SDRF teams are working (to rescue them),” he remarked.
Gahlaut informed that the building collapsed in Pali village and was constructed in 2016-17. “A building collapsed in Pali village which was constructed in 2016-17. One lady was rescued, she was sent to the hospital and according to her 2-3 people are stuck inside. Experts are here and hopefully in the next one or two hours, we will be able to get out the remaining persons,” he said, as per PTI.
