New Delhi: A massive fire broke out at a multiplex in Gujarat's Surat city on Sunday morning. According to fire officials, the fire destroyed a screen and several chairs in the theatre, reported news agency PTI.
There was no report of any casualty in the theatre as it was closed when the incident took place.
However, two fire personnel received minor injuries during the operation to control the blaze, as reported by PTI.
According to a fire official, the blaze erupted at around 9 am in a screen of Time Cinema multiplex, which has seven screens and is located on the top floor of a four-storey building in Pal locality.
Sub-fire officer Girish Sailor said that eight fire vehicles were rushed to the spot to control the blaze which was suspected to have broken out due to a short-circuit.
It took nearly two-and-a-half hours to bring the fire under control, he said.
"The fire broke out in one of the screens of the seven-screen multiplex located on the fourth floor of Fortune Mall in Pal locality of Surat. Eight fire vehicles were used to bring it under control. The blaze was contained before it could spread to other parts of the multiplex," the official said.
7 Firecracker Shops Gutted In Fire In Mathura
In another incident, nine people were injured on Sunday after a fire broke out at a shop and spread to six others, all selling firecrackers, in Gopalbagh on the outskirts of Uttar Pradesh's Mathura city, reported PTI.
Raya police station SHO Ajay Kishor said, "Seven shops selling firecrackers in Gopalbagh area caught fire. Nine people suffered burn injuries. It seems that the fire was caused by a electrical short circuit."
He added that the seven shops had permission to sell firecrackers.
