New Delhi: Nagpur police said five foetuses and some human body parts were found dumped near the compound wall of a ground in the city on Wednesday, PTI reported.


A kidney, a tumour and bones were also found along with the foetuses near the compound wall in Quetta Colony, police said. The discovery of the body parts generated curiosity among the locals.


Police suspect the remains were dumped by one of the hospitals located in the area, PTI reported.


A passer-by noticed the foetuses and alerted the police. After reaching the spot, police called a team of forensic experts to help in investigation.

"We are investigating to find out whether abortions were conducted legally or illegally," PTI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gajanan Rajmane as saying when asked about the discovery of foetuses. 


The police also found some medicine boxes near the compound wall, indicating that the waste came from a nearby hospital, Rajmane said.


Forensic experts were asked to give a report about the age and gender of the foetuses. 


Polcice personnel are scanning CCTV footage to identify the person who dumped the remains in the residential area, PTI reported. Cops are also making a list of nearby hospitals as part of probe into the case.


The Lakadganj police has registered a case and launched a probe.
