The Supreme Court on Friday posted in October the hearing of the appeals of CBI challenging bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam cases of Jharkhand. Reacting to it, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the Centre is 'deliberately harassing' everyone. Meanwhile, the BJP alleged that it was the JDU and other parties that had worked against Lalu.
"Aise he bechare ko tang kar raha hai (They are troubling him necessarily)," he told reporters. The CM added, "Those in Centre are deliberately harassing everyone."
"Nitish Kumar was the person behind the cases against Lalu Prasad Yadav," BJP Bihar state chief Samrat Choudhary said.
Notably, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday moved the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav's bail in cases linked to the alleged fodder scam. Appearing for CBI, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju requested a bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Manoj Misra for an early listing of the matter, Live Law reported.
The RJD supremo has been convicted in four cases related to the alleged fodder scam. These cases are related to illegal withdrawal from Dumka, Deoghar, Chaibasa and Doranda treasuries. He is currently out on bail in the first three cases on the grounds that he has undergone half the sentence.
Lalu Prasad was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court last year in the Doranda treasury case on health grounds. A CBI special court had sentenced him to five years in prison in the case pertaining to the illegal withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crore from Doranda treasury in 1995-1996.
The scam refers to cases of financial irregularities to a total of around Rs 930 crore in the animal husbandry department of Bihar between 1985-1995. Then, Congress was in power in Bihar and Jagannath Mishra was the chief minister.
