New Delhi: Amid reports that some Hindu residents were being threatened by the Muslims to sell their flats in Bhavnagar, Gujarat police flagged the news as fake and said legal proceedings have been initiated against the news organisations that ran the news.
Taking to its Twitter handle, the Bhavnagar Police wrote, “A daily newspaper has published article about 'Hindu Residents being threatened by mob of Muslims to sell their flats in Bhavnagar'. No such incident has taken place in city. Police has initiated a legal inquiry and notice has been issued.”
The DGP of Gujarat Police shared the post on Twitter and wrote, “A case of fake news.”
Notably, some local media publications reported that a mob of 100 to 150 Muslim men entered the Satvik Housing Complex in Bhavnagar and threatened the residents by selectively targeting some flat owners, and forced them to sell off their flats.
The report further claimed that the residents complained the Muslim men entered the society at night to threaten them and also warned them of consequences if they did not accede to the demand. The mob allegedly threatened the residents that they knew everything about their profession and that they would have to pay the price if they refused to budge.
The report also said that the residents have been served an ultimatum to give in to the demand or face dire consequences.
