New Delhi: Mumbai Police has downgraded the security of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, his wife Rashmi, and son Aaditya, PTI reported on Wednesday. According to an official, police removed extra vehicles from the security convoys of Uddhav Thackeray and his family.

As per a Sena (UBT) functionary, the security outside 'Matoshree', the family residence of Thackeray in suburban Bandra, has been reduced too. However, police said that there has been "no downgrading" of any protected person's security.

According to a police official, Mumbai Police had provided an additional vehicle each for the security convoys accompanying former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, his wife Rashmi, and his son, former minister Aaditya.

These additional vehicles have been removed, he said, without specifying the reason. The news agency stated that Uddhav Thackeray enjoys Z+ security while Aaditya has Y+ security cover.

A party official claimed that besides removing extra vehicles, the deployment of security personnel outside 'Matoshree' has also been reduced.

But a police statement clarified that there has been "no withdrawal or downgrading in the scale of security of any categorised protected person residing within the jurisdictional limit of Mumbai Police."

Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray recently took a jibe at Prime Minister Modi, saying that if Modi's supporters think he is like the Sun, then why is he not shining over violence-battered Manipur and questioned his visit to the US at a time when the north-eastern state is in the grip of ethnic clashes.

Manipur is burning but Modi is going to America, Thackeray said ahead of the PM's visit to the US from June 21-24.

"When I asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not visiting the burning Manipur, but is keen on going to the US, I was countered with arguments like 'one should spit at the Sun'. If your 'guru' is like the Sun, then why he is not shining over Manipur?" he asked.
