Independence Day 2024: Ahead of the 78th Independence Day celebrations on Thursday, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory for August 15, detailing road closures and alternative routes for commuters and buses to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
According to the traffic advisory that has been put in place in the national capital, several key roads will remain closed from 4 AM to 10 AM on August 15. Only labelled vehicles will be allowed on these routes. These restrictions have been imposed at and around the Red Fort on August 15.
Delhi Roads That Will Remain Closed On Independence Day
- Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail,
- Lothian Road from GPO to Chatta Rail,
- SP Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk,
- Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort,
- Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg,
- Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg,
- Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and
- Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP flyover (Salimgarh bypass)
Delhi Roads To Avoid On Independence Day
The Delhi Traffic Police stated that the vehicles that do not have parking labels for the Independence Day celebration should avoid these routes:
- C-Hexagon India Gate
- Copernicus Marg,
- Mandi House,
- Sikandra Road,
- W Point,
- A Point Tilak Marg,
- Mathura Road,
- BSZ Marg,
- Netaji Subhash Marg,
- JL Nehru Marg,
- Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta,
- ISBT Kashmiri Gate,
- Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta, and
- ISBT Kashmiri Gate via Salimgarh bypass.
According to the advisory, people commuting between north and south Delhi have been advised to take the following routes on Thursday:
- Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road,
- Kamal Ataturk Marg,
- Kautilya Marg,
- SPM Marg,
- 11 Murti,
- Mother Teresa Crescent,
- Park Street,
- Mandir Marg,
- Panchkuian Road, and
- Rani Jhansi Road
Besides these restrictions, the Delhi Traffic Police also issued another traffic advisory in connection with the state level Independence Day celebrations that will be held at Chhatrasal Stadium from 7 AM onwards.
Commuters have been asked to avoid Inner Ring Road from Azadpur Chowk to Hakikat Nagar T-Point and Chhatrasal Stadium Road in fron of Gate no. 2.
The Delhi Traffic Police has also requested people to make maximum use public transport. People going towards ISBT or Railway stations and airports have been advised to carefully plan their travel with sufficient time at hand to reach on time.
The advisory also asked the general public and motorists to remain patient, observe traffic rules and road disciplines, and follow the directions of traffic personnel deployed at all intersections.
