The President of India accepted the resignation of Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan from her positions as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Following her resignation, the President appointed C. P. Radhakrishnan, the current Governor of Jharkhand, to discharge the duties of Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in addition to his existing responsibilities. 


In a press release, Rashtrapati Bhavan said, "The President of India has accepted the resignation of Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. The President of India is also pleased to appoint Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, Governor of Jharkhand to discharge the functions of the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements are made."


"The above appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his office," the release said. 


Earlier, CP Radhakrishnan was a member of BJP and was elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Coimbatore. After the appointment, taking to X, CP Radhakrishnan said, "I am humbled and blessed to be given the additional responsibility to serve as the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. I thank from the bottom of my heart our beloved most respected Honourable President Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji, our beloved most respected Honourable Prime Minister Shri.@narendramodi Ji and our beloved most respected Honourable Home Minister Shri.@AmitShah Ji for giving me this great additional responsibility to serve our Motherland. On Monday, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan tendered her resignation from office. Additionally, Soundararajan has also stepped down from her position as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, according to a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan.


"The Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has tendered her resignation with immediate effect. The resignation has been submitted to the President of India," read the official statement. 














At the age of 62, Soundararajan assumed office as the second Governor of the newly formed state of Telangana in November 2019. Later, in February 2021, she was entrusted with the additional responsibility of serving as the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry.
