A 27-year-old tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped by six men in the Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on Monday. All the suspects have been arrested.

The attack took place when the woman was on her way to a local fair after celebrating Raksha Bandhan at a village under the Pusaur police station area in Raigarh, PTI reported. She filed a complaint on Tuesday, based on which the police registered an FIR.

According to her complaint, the accused allegedly obstructed her way and forcibly took her to the bank of a nearby pond where they raped her. While the six accused have been arrested, further investigation is underway.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the case.

Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has termed the incident very serious.

"The incident of rape in [the] Pusaur area of Raigarh is very serious. The culprits should be arrested immediately and the victim should be given protection till the accused are convicted," Baghel wrote in a post on X on Tuesday night. "The victim should be provided [with] every possible assistance."

Tribal Raped & Murdered In Maharashtra

In April, a 12-year-old tribal girl was raped and murdered by unidentified assailants in the Deori taluka of Gondia, Maharashtra. The Class 6 student’s semi-naked, decomposing body was found in the Ganutola armed outpost limits. The police also found a blood-smeared boulder at the crime scene, 3 km from her village at Gothanpar.

The girl went missing on April 19 and her body was found in the Dhawalkhedi jungles, 11 hours later.

According to The Times Of India, the girl attended a wedding in the neighbourhood and, around 8 pm, some villagers spotted her riding pillion on a bike. However, the biker rider had not been identified when the incident was reported in April.
