A man working as a contractual labourer at a steel plant in Bhilai allegedly killed his wife and two minor sons before committing suicide at his home in Chhattisgarh's Durg district. The local police said the man took the extreme step over a family dispute, according to a PTI report.
The incident was reported from Umarpoti village, located around 45 km away from capital Raipur, under Utai police station limits on Thursday.
The body of Bhojram Sahu (34) was found hanging from the ceiling fan in their room late Thursday evening, while his wife Lalita (25) and children Pravin (4) and Tikesh (2) were lying dead on the bed, PTI quoted Patan Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Devansh Singh Rathore as saying.
Bhjoram's mother and his elder brother's wife were reportedly at home when the incident occurred. His father and brother were out for some work, said the SDPO.
"When they did not come out of the room till late evening, the other family members suspected something fishy and informed their neighbours," he said, adding that the neighbours then peeped through the window of the room, and saw Bhojram's body hanging from the ceiling.
After the neighbours alerted the police, the latter came and broke open the door, only to find Lalita and the two children dead too, the SDPO said, according to the PTI report.
He said it appeared that the man strangled his wife and the older boy using a mobile phone cord, and smothered the younger son with a pillow before hanging himself.
While "some family dispute" was cited to be behind the act, the officer said no suicide note was found.
The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem and a case has been registered.
