The charred coaches of the New Delhi-Darbhanga Express train (02570), which caught fire, are being moved using an engine on Thursday morning. The fire broke out when the Darbhanga Clone Special (02570) was passing through Sarai Bhopat Railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The station master stopped the train after he saw smoke in the S1 coach. The train was swiftly brought to a halt, and power was cut off. Passengers were successfully evacuated, preventing potential loss of life. Firefighters brought the flames under control, and fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or significant property damage.
The railway authorities have assured the public that the fire is now completely contained. The train resumed its journey after the charred coaches were detached. The train was only allowed to depart after several checks were completed on Wednesday night.
According to a report, the fire broke out in one sleeper coach but soon engulfed three more coaches.
"We received information about the fire in the S1 coach... Fire brigades reached the spot and doused the fire. An investigation will be conducted... Six to seven people suffered minor injuries, and they were shifted to the hospital where they are undergoing treatment," Company Commander RPF Gajendra Pal Singh told ANI.
On Wednesday night, Etawah SSP Sanjay Kumar told ANI, "As per the current report, three bogies of the train caught fire — one S1 sleeper coach and other general coaches. The fire has been completely doused," said SSP Kumar.
"We called all the fire brigades and got the last bogie that was on fire disconnected, after which we succeeded in extinguishing the fire," he added.
Etawah DM Avnish Rai said that they received information about a fire that broke out on the train. He added that there were no casualties, but “eight passengers sustained minor injuries and were sent to the district hospital.”
Etawah SSP Kumar further informed that arrangements were being made for the passengers so that they can reach their destinations.
