Haryana Bus Accident: A school bus overturned near a village in Haryana's Narnaul on Thursday morning leaving six children dead and several others injured. According to sources, the school was functioning despite a holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. The bus which belonged to GL Public School overturned near Unhani village of Kanina. The District Education Officer said that six children were killed in the accident.


The incident took place at around 8.30 am when the bus was carrying around 40 children -- from primary to secondary classes, as reported by PTI. The injured children were rushed to a hospital. Mahendragarh's Superintendent of Police Arsh Verma said that the driver of the bus has been arrested, PTI reported. The bus overturned after hitting the tree.


As per the report, when asked about reports suggesting that the driver was drunk, he clarified, "We have arrested him and his medical examination is being conducted after which we will be able to properly establish whether he was drunk or not". Police have also arrested school principal Deepti and one more school official whose name is Hoshiar Singh.

  6. Mandeep Singh, a lawyer from Kheri Talwana village, claimed some villagers stopped the driver when they learnt he was drunk but the principal intervened and asked them to leave him for the day, with a promise that he will be replaced on Friday.

  7. Minutes later, however, the bus met the accident, he said, adding the fitness certificate of the vehicle had expired long back and it did not have insurance and other documents also. Later in the day, the last rites of the deceased children were performed.

Expressing condolences, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said, "I am saddened by the school bus accident in Kanina, Mahendragarh. My condolences are with the bereaved families who have lost their innocent children. The local administration is ready to help the injured. I wish all the injured a speedy recovery."






Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed condolences, "The accident of a school bus in Mahendragarh, Haryana is very sad. My condolences are with the bereaved families of the deceased children. May God give them the strength to bear this loss. The local administration is providing help to the injured children. I wish them a speedy recovery."
