In a chilling daylight execution that has shaken Bihar’s capital, gangster and convicted murderer Chandan Mishra was gunned down inside the ICU of Patna’s upscale Paras Hospital on Thursday morning. The attackers—six in total—carried out the murder with military-like precision, raising troubling questions about hospital security and police oversight.

A Chilling Operation, Carried Out With Precision

According to police, the hit squad arrived on two motorcycles. Five of them, armed and focused, walked straight into the hospital, while one accomplice remained outside to keep watch. Their leader, identified as Tauseef Badshah—a known criminal with a prior prison record—appeared disturbingly familiar with the hospital’s layout, having visited frequently when a close associate was admitted there for long-term treatment.

Hospital security initially tried to stop the men at the emergency gate, asking for gate passes. But when the group failed to produce any, they simply slipped in through the outpatient department (OPD) and made a beeline for Room 209—where Chandan Mishra lay under guard, on parole for medical treatment.

Officials now believe the assailants had conducted thorough reconnaissance. Not only were they aware of Mishra’s exact location, but they also knew that the lock on Room 209 was faulty, making forced entry all too easy.

Caught on Camera: A Movie Style Murder

The entire sequence unfolded just after dawn. CCTV footage recovered by police shows five men moving silently through the hospital corridor. Leading them was Tauseef Badshah—his shirt untucked, collar loose, pistol in hand. He didn’t run. He didn’t conceal his identity. His pace was measured, his face emotionless. Seconds later, Mishra lay dead, riddled with bullets.

As the others fled the scene, Tauseef walked away just as calmly as he had entered. Footage from outside the hospital later showed the attackers celebrating, one raising his pistol in triumph as they sped away on motorcycles around 7:15 a.m.

By 7:30 a.m., emergency calls began flooding in. Within half an hour, video clips of the execution were circulating on social media, triggering widespread panic and political outrage. By noon, police had identified all five attackers using CCTV visuals.

Who Was Chandan Mishra?

Chandan Mishra, 36, hailed from Buxar district and had been serving a sentence in Beur Jail for a long list of crimes—including at least a dozen murders. On parole for medical treatment, he was under police watch when he was killed inside what should have been a secure hospital room.

Despite his criminal record, the brazen nature of the attack—inside a reputed medical facility, in full view of security staff—has exposed glaring lapses in Bihar’s law enforcement and public safety infrastructure.

The Man Behind the Gun: Who is Tauseef Badshah?

Police have confirmed that the man leading the attack, Tauseef Badshah, is a resident of Phulwari Sharif in Patna. His background paints a disturbing contrast—his father runs a hardware business, his mother is a schoolteacher, and he attended Saint Karen’s School.

Despite this seemingly stable upbringing, Tauseef’s descent into crime had already begun. He was booked under the Arms Act in a previous case and had reportedly transitioned into contract killings, accepting money for assassinations and logistical support.

Rooted in Gang Rivalry

Investigators believe the killing stems from an old rivalry between Chandan Mishra and another gangster, Sheru. Once allies in Bhagalpur jail, the two reportedly had a falling out. Chandan later broke away, though he continued to operate under the "Sheru Gang" label. Police suspect the murder was an act of vengeance, carefully planned and ruthlessly executed.

Police Response and Ongoing Manhunt

So far, six suspects have been detained from Patna and Buxar districts. Police teams have launched intensive searches across known Sheru gang hideouts. Authorities are also looking into the possibility of inside help, with Inspector General (Central Range) Jitendra Rana confirming that the role of security guards is under investigation.

“A criminal named Chandan Mishra was admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment and was shot by members of a rival gang. It cannot be ruled out that the security guards were involved. We will investigate this angle as well,” he said.
