One Injured In Firing During Voting In Nalanda

A polling agent named Mohammad Akiv Khan, who was sitting near the polling station in the Mirdad locality, was injured in firing. A stampede ensued in the area after the shooting. The injured was taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment. A large police team, comprising DM, SP, and DSP, reached the spot. The DM and SP are taking stock of the situation.

Motihari MP Radha Mohan Singh Casts Vote

BJP's National Vice-President and Motihari MP Radha Mohan Singh has cast his vote for the Motihari Municipal Corporation elections. Former Union Minister and MP Radha Mohan Singh stood in a queue at the polling booth at Gurukul School in Mathia Jirat. 2nd Phase Of Voting For 68 Municipal Corporation Seats Begin

The second phase of voting for the 68 municipal corporation seats of Bihar Nagar Nigam has begun. Polling for the first phase was conducted on December 18th.

Background

Bihar Municipal Election Phase 2: The voting for the second phase of the Bihar municipal election is being held today with candidates fighting for the 68 wards. The results will be declared on Friday, 30th December.


Voting is being done across 17 municipal corporations including Patna, 2 Municipal Councils, and 49 Nagar Panchayats in a total of 68 cities of 23 districts of Bihar. The voting will continue till 5 PM. Tight security arrangements have been made at the polling booths for the smooth conduct of the election process.  


In this phase, the fate of 11,127 candidates for Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chief Councillor, Ward Councilor, and 1665 other posts will be sealed in EVMs. The counting of votes for the second phase of the municipal elections will be held on Friday and then the results will be released on the same day. 


7088 booths have been made for the election. This is the first time when the voters in the state will be directly electing the chief councilor and deputy chief councilor. 


The first phase of the polls was held on 18th December for 156 municipal corporation wards. The results were declared on December 20.


SC Decision On Bihar Nagar Nigam Election 


The municipal polls were earlier scheduled to be held on October 10 and 20. However, it got delayed after the Patna High Court, in its order, said that the reservations of extremely backward castes and (EBC)/ Other Backward Class (OBC) in the ensuing urban local bodies (ULB) polls in Bihar are "illegal". 


The court held that quotas for the Extremely Backward Classes in the state's municipal polls were "illegal" since these were not based on the report of a Dedicated Commission. The court then ordered the SEC could go ahead with the elections after "re-notifying" all such reserved seats as belonging to the general category
