A boat capsized near Matiyar village in the Manjhi block of Saran district on Wednesday evening, killing two people. Ten people managed to reach safety, and seven more are being rescued. The ill-fated vessel, which was carrying 19 passengers at the time, experienced a disastrous turn of events, prompting a quick response from local authorities.

Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir was quick to arrive at the scene and engage with the affected individuals. He shared that the group aboard the boat routinely used it for their daily farming activities, embarking in the morning and returning in the evening. However, the boat, which was carrying more passengers than its recommended capacity, met with tragedy near Matiyar Ghat, not far from the Uttar Pradesh border.

"We are at the spot and spoke to the people here. We also spoke with some of the people who were on the boat. They said that they used to go there for farming every morning and come back in the evening. They were 19 in number. As per the information available to us, 10 of them are safe, 2 died and 7 others are being rescued," he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The exact circumstances that caused the boat to capsize are unknown at this time. According to the Hindustan Times, preliminary investigations by Aman Samir indicate that a sudden shift of passengers to one side of the boat may have caused the disaster. The reasons for this abrupt change have yet to be determined.

According to the report, local police are actively involved in the ongoing rescue operation, working to save the remaining individuals who are stranded or missing. Despite the difficulties posed by this unfortunate incident, authorities remain committed to their efforts, with the search set to resume on Thursday.
