New Delhi: In a tragic incident in Bihar, eight people, including three children, were killed as their jeep collided head-on with a tractor on Monday morning, police said. The incident took place around 5.15 am near a petrol pump on National Highway 31 in the Pasraha area of the Khagaria district.


In the accident, three people were also injured, police said in a statement, reported news agency PTI.


Initially, a senior police officer had said that nine people were killed and six persons were injured, but later, it was confirmed that eight people lost their lives, with three others injured. Those injured were undergoing treatment at Bhagalpur District Hospital, as per the PTI report.


"While seven people died on the spot, one more succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital. The three injured persons have been admitted to the Bhagalpur district hospital for better treatment," the statement said.






According to the police statement, those who were travelling in the jeep were returning from a wedding when the accident happened.














Police stated that the tractor involved in the collision was overloaded, the PTI report added.














The deceased were identified as Gautam Kumar (10), Prakash Singh (60), Monu Kumar (11), Aman Kumar (19), Bunty Kumar (22), Anshu Kumar (22), Villo Kumar (5) and Paltu Thakur (65).


The injured individuals were identified as Sachit Thakur, Dharmendra Kumar, and Kundan Kumar, the statement said, reported PTI.


Superintendent of Police Chandan Kushwaha said, "An investigation is underway. The bodies are being sent for post-mortem examinations."


An investigation into the accident is currently underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic incident, it said.
