West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday released Rs 197 crore relief aid to around 2.46 lakhs farmers in the state who could not sow paddy due to less rainfall this season. Banerjee said that the claims were finalised under Bangla Shasya Bima (BSB) scheme through the state government will pay the entire amount and farmers are not requited ti pay anything.


"We are releasing Rs.197 Cr to 2.46 Lakhs affected Farmers who could not sow paddy due to deficit rainfall. The claims have been finalized under Bangla Shasya Bima (BSB), which is a fully State Government funded crop Insurance scheme and we pay the entire premium amount. Farmers are not required to pay anything," she said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.






She added that since the inspection of the scheme in 2019, the government has paid more than Rs 2400 crore to 85 lakh farmers.
