A 22-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her live-in partner in Siddhartha Nagar of B Savaram village, Rajolu mandal, late Wednesday night. The incident has sent shockwaves across the district, with police revealing that the murder was triggered by the victim’s refusal to engage in prostitution at the insistence of her partner.

Man Murders Wife For Refusing Sex Work

The victim, Oleti Pushpa, had been residing with 22-year-old Sheikh Shamma for the past six months following her separation from her husband, reported India Today. The couple had rented a house in the village, where tensions had reportedly escalated in recent weeks. According to police, Shamma grew increasingly violent and suspicious of Pushpa’s interactions with others, often becoming aggressive, especially under the influence of alcohol.

On the night of the incident, an argument broke out around 10 PM after Shamma once again pressured Pushpa to accompany him for sex work. When she firmly refused, he attacked her with a knife, stabbing her in the chest and leg. Pushpa died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

Her mother, Ganga, and brother, who attempted to intervene during the altercation, were also assaulted by Shamma. They also  sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Accused On Run

Rajolu Circle Inspector Naresh Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered and that two police teams have been deployed to locate the accused, who fled the scene and remains absconding, as per the report. Pushpa’s body was moved to the medical college hospital for postmortem and will be handed over to her family thereafter.

The police said the investigation is ongoing and they are examining the sequence of events leading up to the murder.
