After concluding the massive election campaign in poll-bound Karnataka, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata on Monday night. The minister will attend the Rabindra Jayanti programme at Jorasanko Thakurbari here on Tuesday on the occasion of the 162nd birth anniversary of Kavi Guru Rabindranath Tagore. During his visit, he will be meeting with Border Security Force (BSF) officials and will also inaugurate several development projects. This includes the projects of the Land Port Authority of India and the BSF at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Petrapole in North 24 Parganas district, reported news agency PTI.


Shah will also chair a meeting with Bengal BJP leaders to review the preparedness for Lok Sabha Elections and Panchayat Elections in the state. Later in the day, the Home Minister will release a film named 'Luminaries of Bengal'. He will also inaugurate several projects at Kolkata's Science City. In the evening, Shah will attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Rabindranath Tagore.






The event is being organised by a socio-cultural body named 'Khola Hawa' which is based in West Bengal. News agency ANI quoted Swapan Dasgupta, president of Khola Hawa and former Rajya Sabha MP as saying, "Kobi Guru Rabindranath Tagore has shaped the sensibilities and personality of Bengalis. His contribution to the literature, arts and culture of Bengal is immeasurable. Amit Shah and G Kishan Reddy have accepted Khola Hawa's invitation to attend a grand celebration of Kobi Guru Rabindranath Tagore. Shah will speak on Kobi Guru's influence on modern Indian thought. The event is being supported by the Ministry of Culture as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations in the country."


Kohinoor Sen Barat and his troupe, accompanied by actor Rituparna Sengupta, will perform at the program. Singers like Somlata Acharya and Ujan Mukherjee will present their versions of Rabindra sangeet. Tanusree Sankar and her troupe will give a stage performance and Chandrima Roy will recite Tagore's poems. This will be followed by a choir performance as well.


Other dignitaries like Leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari, State BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar, and Union Minister Santanu Thakur are expected to attend the event.
