Former Indian star all-rounder and the hero of the 2011 World Cup triumph Yuvraj Singh is all set to come out of retirement and represent his state side Punjab in domestic cricket. Yuvraj's comeback to the sport could come as early as today, said Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) secretary Puneet Bali on Wednesday.

As per media reports and sources tracking this development, Yuvraj is likely to play only the T20 format for Punjab if he makes a comeback to the sport post retirement.

Now, the official announcement is set to be made on Thursday. "I don't have any official confirmation yet [from Yuvraj]. I was the one who had requested him to reconsider his retirement because I wanted his mentorship of young kids. I am likely to get the official confirmation by tomorrow [Thursday]," Bali told IANS on Wednesday evening.

Yuvraj Singh bid adieu to all forms of cricket in June last year, having played his last international game for India in 2017.

Yuvraj's inclination to make a return to cricket was re-ignited by PCA Secretary Puneet Bali who approached him to come out of the retirement and mentor the budding and promising young cricketers in Punjab, the state Yuvraj represented for nearly two decades in domestic cricket.

Yuvraj had been working and mentoring a highly talented pool of younsgters from Punjab which included the likes of Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, and Anmolpreet Singh at the PCA Stadium in Mohali – for some time.

In Punjab's off-season camp, 'Yuvi' turned up for a few practice matches and it was at that point that Bali, requested him to come out of retirement and act as a mentor for youngsters.

“I was done with domestic cricket, though I did want to continue to play in other domestic franchise-based leagues worldwide if I got permission from the BCCI. But I also couldn’t ignore Mr Bali’s request. I gave it a lot of thought, for nearly three or four weeks, and it was almost as if I didn’t even have to make a conscious decision in the end. “As things stand now, I will be playing only T20s if I get the nod,” Yuvraj said.
