New Delhi: American President Donald Trump's highly awaited address at the 'Namaste Trump' event to the one-lac plus crowd at the jam packed Motera Stadium drew a vociferous applause as he made references to Indian cricketing icons Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

In his power-packed address which ranged from hailing Indian PM Narendra Modi's achievements to the rising Indian economy , Trump hit the right notes with the crowd by touching upon two topics which have been hugely popular among the billion plus cricket crazy Indian population.

"The world knows of Bollywood and their films like DDLJ. All over the planet people take great joy in watching Bollywood films, bhangra, and classic films like DDLJ and Sholay. You cheer on great cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli," says Donald Trump.

Trump praised Prime Minister Modi by saying that he has showcased immense hard work and devotion in helping India attain major heights after being elected by a massive mandate in the last General elections held in 2019.

"Namaste, it is a great honour for me to be here," the US president said, describing India as an amazing nation. "There is a difference between a nation that rises by coercion and one that rises by setting its people free -- that is India. India and the US have natural and enduring friendship," he said.

Donald Trump who became only the seventh American President to make a state visit to India, is on a two day visit where he has a jam packed schedule visiting three major cities - Ahmadabad, Agra and New Delhi. During Trump's visit, India and the United States of America are likely to strengthen bilateral ties by signing deals in defence and trade.
