New Delhi: Jyoti Gupta, 21-year-old hockey player, who represented Indian women’s hockey team, was found dead in Harayan’s Rewari district on Wednesday evening.

Jyoti’s body was recovered from Jhajjar road flyover near Rewari-Rohtak railway line in mysterious circumstances but the police believe she committed suicide after taking Chandigarh-Jaipur intercity express’ drivers statement into consideration.

The driver claimed he saw her standing alone on the track and suddenly came in front of the train. He also tried to apply breaks but it was too late for the train to stop.

However, the GRP have initiated inquest proceedings as the family of the deceased suspect foul play.

The 21-year-old had been to Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, to get the spelling of her name corrected in her mark sheet.
