New Delhi: Serbian top seed Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6(3) to win his seventh Wimbledon title on Sunday. The Serb has now won four consecutive Wimbledon titles and move one Grand Slam behind Rafael Nadal on 21. Kyrgios won the opening set with some brilliant serves but he failed to maintain his momentum as Djokovic won the second and third sets with ease. Kyrgios gave a tough fight to Djokovic in the last set but it was not enough to stop the top-seed Serb from creating history.
Djokovic defeated Cameron Nori in the semi-finals to reach his 32nd Grand Slam final. With this, he attained the feat of reaching the most Grand Slam finals in the Open Era, surpassing veteran Roger Federer.
Djokovic defeated Kwun Soon-woo in the first round of the tournament, Thanasi Kokinakis in the second round, Miomir Kemanovic in the third round, Tim Van Rijthoven in the fourth round, and Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals.
Novak Djokovic has now won seven Wimbledon and 21 Grand Slam titles. He has leapfrogged Roger Federer to win the most Grand Slam titles. Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles so far. Spain's Rafael Nadal holds the record for winning the most 22 Grand Slam titles. Earlier this year, all three players had won 20 titles each. Nadal won the Australian and French Open. At Wimbledon, he was ruled out of the semi-finals with an abdominal injury.
