Wimbledon 2022: The 1st round of Men’s Singles played on Monday produced a few upsets as the grass-court grand slam, Wimbledon, commenced off to a fine start. The shock of the day was when an unseeded Davidovich Fokina stunned 7th seeded Polish ace Hurkacz in a thrilling 5-setter. Elsewhere, favourites like Djokovic (1) and Casper Ruud (3) made light work out of their opponents as they walked out comfortable winners in their respective matches.

John Isner, well known for his endurance in the matches, showed the world his prowess as he starts off his campaign with a hard-fought 5-set win over unseeded French player Enzo Couacaud. Teen sensation and one of the top contenders, Spanish ace Carlos Alcaraz (5) also started off his campaign roughly as he won the match against Jan-Lennard Struff in 5 sets.

Home-boy and crowd favourite Andy Murray put on a show as he defeated Australian James Duckworth after being a set down in a 4-set thriller. Murray’s skill was on display as he reinstated his status as one of the modern-day greats and reminded people why he is the only British Wimbledon champion past 80 years (Winner in 2013 and 2016, 2013 one is the instance where a British player won the championship after 77 years).

10th seeded Italian Sinner dismantled 3-time grand slam winner Stan Wawrinka in 4 sets as Wawrinka’s woes past few years do not seem like stopping, and Norrie (9) and Carreno (16) made sure there were no further upsets in 1st round and they walked out victorious in their respective matches.
