New Delhi: West Bengal governor La Ganesan was heavily criticised after his video went viral where he is seen trying to shove Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri as he accepted the Durand Cup trophy went viral on social media. La Ganesan can be seen requesting Chhetri to move to make room for himself as he poses for the picture at this point.

In response to the incident's footage, social media criticised the governor for his behaviour. Robin Uthappa, a former international player for India, who recently declared his retirement from cricket, criticised the minister on Twitter and wrote, “That’s just all sorts of wrong!! Sorry @chetrisunil11, you deserve so much better than this!!”

Sivasakthi Narayanan, who scored a goal for Bengaluru in the championship game, was earlier spotted getting shoved during the same ceremony.

The visitors who came to present the trophies seem eager to stand out more than the athletes in the picture. The recordings have been viewed by more than 40,000 individuals, and many football fans have remarked on how stunned they were by them. Social media users called the treatment of India's finest football players "extremely terrible” and “disgraceful”.

Chhetri and the team won the 2022 Durand Cup by defeating Mumbai City FC in the championship game at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. The 38-year-old was scheduled to accept the trophy as team captain following the game, as is customary for the ceremony.

Bengaluru's victory capped a successful season for Simon Grayson's team, who had previously won the I-League (in 2014 and 2016), Federation Cup (in 2015 and 2017), Super Cup (in 2018), and Indian Super League (in 2019).
