Playing in his first NatWest T20 Blast match, Mustafizur picked four crucial wickets and conceded just 23 runs in his four overs to help Sussex beat Essex by 24 runs. His match-winning performance, that helped Sussex move up to the fourth position in the points table, earned him the Man of the Match award in his debut match.
Rahman is also the first player to win the Man of the Match awards in both his Test and ODI debuts against South Africa and India respectively.
The performance was special for one more reason. Mustafizur, who arrival at the club was delayed due to visa issues, arrived in England only on Wednesday and played the match on Thursday.
“It has taken some hard work to get Rahman here, and a lot of people have worked hard to make it happen. Now we can see why he was worth so much time and effort. He is a very special bowler. He has put in a performance straight away that was very special to watch,” the Sussex captain Luke Wright was quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
