The young wicket-keeper batsman has now become the first player substituted out of a BBL game due to a concussion, making Tom Cooper first official concussion substitute in the BBL.
Sharing video of the collision on their twitter account, BBL wrote, "Nasty collision in the middle between Sam Harper and Nathan Ellis. Play has stopped while the docs take a look at Harper #BBL09".
The official twitter account of Melbourne Renegades gave an update on Sam Harper after the horrific incident, revealing that the club's medical staff confirmed that Harper sustained concussion during the innings and has been taken to hospital as a precaution for further observation.
Batting first, the Hurricanes finish on 3-190 after 20 overs, courtesy fluent fifties from Matthew Wade (66 off 29 balls) and Macalister Wright (70 off 50 balls) and a fiery finishing knock from Ben McDermott (38 off 19-balls).
However, Renegades lost the battle just by four runs despite a heroic 30-ball 63 runs knock from Mohammad Nabi.
Brief score: Hobart Hurricanes 3-190 (Wright 70*, Wade 66; Boyce 2-27) defeated Melbourne Renegades 4-186 (Nabi 63, Marsh 56, Webster 50) by four runs
