New Delhi: Former New Castle, West Ham and Chelsea striker Demba Ba, who is currently representing Shanghai Shenhua and is Chinese Super League top scorer, picked up a horrific injury on Sunday.

The incident took place in the second half of the match against bitter rivals Shanghai SIPG. Though Shanghai Shenhua won the match 2-1, Ba suffered a terrible leg break.

Ba immediately collapsed to the ground in agony after slipping over in a challenge with Shanghai SIPG's Sun Xiang.

Xiang, who was trying to recover the ball, accidently hit the left leg of the 31-year-old Ba.

"It could end Ba’s professional career. I would rather lose the game than lose Ba,” Head coach Gregorio Manzano quoted as saying by Goal.com.

"Ba is too good to have this happen to him."

Ba has been in top form since moving to Chinese football in 2015, scoring 14 goals in 18 Super League appearances for Shanghai Shenhua in 2016 to lead the league's scoring charts.
