New Delhi: Indian cricket team's star batter Virat Kohli reportedly won't be playing the third and final T20 international between India and South Africa on Tuesday, PTI reported. Team India already have won the three-match T20I series 2-0, following the series-clinching win in Guwahati on Sunday. As per a PTI report, the former India skipper flew to Mumbai on Monday morning.
"He has been rested from the final T20I," a BCCI official told PTI.
"After the final game against the Proteas, Kohli will link up with the squad in Mumbai from where the team is scheduled to leave for Australia on October 6 for the T20 World Cup," PTI reported.
Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 49 off 28 balls on Sunday in India vs South Africa second T20 International as India defeated Proteas by 16 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead -- registering their first-ever T20 series win against South Africa at home. In Virat's absence, Shreyas Iyer is expected to take his place in India XI for 3rd T20I.
India is scheduled to play its last T20 International against South Africa on Tuesday at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, also its last T20 assignment before the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Virat Kohli has played all matches for India since the Asia Cup 2022. The ex-India skipper has scored 404 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 141.75.
During this, Virat scored three half-centuries and one century, returning to form after a long lean patch and will now play for the national team in the T20 World Cup. Team India will play its first match against Pakistan on 23rd October.
