New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is now being seen testing across India and now it was spied in Leh alongside the Grand Vitara and the Thar. The Jimny 5-door will compete with the Mahindra Thar when launched and this image represents the car being tested for off-road and performance in extreme conditions.

The Grand Vitara is the first all-wheel drive Maruti offering but the Jimny 5-door would be the first Maruti to get a proper 4x4 like the Thar with low range along with added off-road modes. The 5-door version is nearly identical to the 3-door that we have covered earlier but the extra length requires new body panels and a new door design along with a longer wheelbase of course.

The Jimny 5-door would only be available as a 4x4 and would be launched with both manual as well as automatic options. However, the Jimny 5-door will be getting the more modern 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters along with the new 1.5 petrol engine.

It will be a mild hybrid engine as the full hybrid is reserved for the Grand Vitara. In terms of features, the Jimny 5-door would be much better equipped than the 3-door overseas model with a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, touchscreen with off-road specific displays, and more.

However, the Jimny will not be coming with a sunroof for sure as it will be reserved for the Brezza and the Grand Vitara. We expect an Auto Expo debut for the Jimny and it would be a premium SUV to be retailed via the Nexa showrooms alongside the Grand Vitara.

The Jimny 5-door is the successor to the Gypsy which has been an iconic model in India but unlike the Gypsy, the Jimny is a 5-door and suitable as a family SUV also which is important. We expect the Jimny 5-door to be priced alongside the Thar with 4x4 being standard.
