Run-machine Virat Kohli made his international debut under legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni's captaincy in 2008. Virat was handed over the charge of national squad after Dhoni decided to step down as skipper. Today, Virat Kohli has become India's most successful captain in Test cricket.

On the other hand, under MS Dhoni's captaincy, Indian cricket team have won the ODI World Cup (2011), T20 World Cup (2007) and ICC Champions Trophy (2013). Two-time World Cup winner MS Dhoni is the only captain in the world to have won three different ICC tournaments.

Recently, Virat Kohli was asked a question on Instagram to define his bond with MS Dhoni in just two words. Responding to this, Kohli wrote "Trust, respect".

Last year, during an Instagram chat with Ravichandran Ashwin, Kohli had praised Dhoni saying that Mahi had played a big role in making him the captain of team India. MS Dhoni had suddenly announced his retirement from Test cricket in the year 2014 in Australia and Kohli was then made the captain.

"I have always been inclined towards taking responsibility. After my debut for India, it was just about wanting to play, it was about being in the Indian XI all the time," Kohli had said.

"Then, with your intrigue in the game, you start talking to the captain regularly. I was always in MS' ears, discussing different tactics," the Indian skipper added.

"I think he got a lot of confidence that I can do this after him. I think he played a big role in that (taking over the captaincy)," he said.
