New Delhi: In another proud moment for all Indians, Singhraj Adhana won bronze with a score of 216.8 in the P1 - Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event at the Tokyo Paralympics on Tuesday. This was Singhraj's first medal in his maiden Paralympic Games
Compatriot Manish Narwal, who had topped the qualifying field, ended seventh, getting eliminated with two poor rounds. Singhraj ended with a score of 216.8 in the final to finish behind Chinese duo Yang Chao (237.9) and Huang Xing (237.5).
Singhraj started off brilliantly to go top of the rankings in the initial stages. However, a 9.0 in his fifth shot saw him drop to second as China's Chao Yang took over the leader board. He scored a couple of 10.0 in the next round and survived a scare when he could manage only 9.4 and 9.7 to drop down to fourth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the bronze medallist. Taking to his official Twitter account, PM Modi said, "Exceptional performance by Singhraj Adhana! India’s talented shooter brings home the coveted Bronze Medal. He has worked tremendously hard and achieved remarkable successes. Congratulations to him and best wishes for the endeavours ahead."
This was India's second medal at the Asaka Shooting Range after Avani Lekhara won India's first gold medal in shooting on Monday. With the recent addition of bronze medal, India's tally has reached 8 which is more than their entire record at the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016. On Monday, won 4 medals. First a gold medal in shooting, then a silver in Discus Throw followed by two medals in Javelin throw.
